Description
While I tend to look back fondly on all the places I've been, there's a warm and special place in my heart for Edinburgh. It was Edinburgh where I began an annual tradition of New Year's Eve abroad. And beyond that personal tradition, it's just a drop dead Gorgeous city filled with the physical evidence of a thousand years of Scottish and British history.
Pictured here is the beautiful Royal Mile, which stretches from Edinburgh Castle at the top to Holyrood Palace at the bottom. Bottom being a literal term as the famous mile leads up hill to the castle. The photo this piece of textured art is based upon was taken near St. Giles Cathedral in the heart of Old Town. Being night and having just rained, there were precious little in the way of color to those wet streets aside from this pair of beautiful old Red Telephone Boxes. The rest of the color was so subtle that I decided to go with the flow and focus on the brilliant red phone booths when editing.
For me, this image is emblematic both of the damp winter streets of Edinburgh and the infamous atmosphere of the iconic British Isles.
