Description
There are so many fading examples of Americana, things from yesteryear that would never be built as stylish today as they were long ago. This humble little railroad depot in Marshailville, Georgia, was built in the early 20th century.
It's been a long time since a train stopped to load and unload either passengers or goods here, but there's still beauty in that old railroad architecture. I love those wide eaves and the huge over-built brackets - a quite memorable feature!
It was in tiny Marshallville that Georgia's commercial peach industry blossomed thanks to Samuel Rumph. There's little doubt this stylish train station came along during the heyday that followed, a prosperous time in this part of Georgia.
While this old depot is still in Marshallville, it's since lost some of its period charm to modernization for a new store. So, for me, this scene preserves a little piece of Fading Americana from a small town in Georgia.
