The first time I saw the sunset in Mexico, it was on the highway heading to Rocky Point, or Puerto Penasco. It was my first but not last time south of the border and I was heading with newly found friends to see one of my favorite bands, Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers, play there. Probably not the usual introduction to life in colorful Mexico but it brought me back more than once since.
Sunset on the highway was beautiful. The sun setting behind the cacti in the Sonoran desert is a memory etched in my brain, but my first relaxing and proper sunset was the next evening sitting on a balcony overlooking the gorgeous Sea of Cortez.
It was the first time I dipped my toes in the Pacific but it was the colors I'll never forget. And the photos and memories of those magical colors from that evening over a decade ago are what inspired this particular sunset artwork. I swear I can feel the warm sun and the sea breeze again...
