Description
This landscape panorama from the gorgeous Isle of Skye was my first real attempt at a panorama. I had made a couple of attempts before and read up on the process, but it was the first time I was determined that I had to use the panorama format. In case it's not clear why, it was because standing there on the Quiraing and looking across the vista before me, I just had to attempt to capture as much of it as possible. One frame of the camera was just not enough for that expansive and awe inspiring view!
I can't say how thrilled I was when I got home and the panorama was successfully assembled. I had never seen anything like Skye before or since and this illustrates I was not dreaming! At least I hope not.
I've since read up on this amazing landscape and discovered that this is the result of what is called a land-slip. The earth literally just drops away and leaves these wild peaks and cliffs behind. And it's quite active. I'm told that the roads on the Quiraing on the Isle of Skye have to be repaired yearly because the road separates from itself in various places almost constantly.
It may just be me, but when I looked across Skye from this vantage point, it had a primordial or primeval feel to me, like I imagine the earth being portrayed in a film about its very distant past. Skye has that wild, raw feeling of a young earth to me. And this was the landscape that most captured it for me. I found Skye to be an incredibly beautiful place and I'm glad to have not only visited but captured some of that raw, wild beauty of the Scottish Highlands with my camera. And yet it still has a feeling of being from a waking dream. Go figure!
