Description
I'm always fascinated by the vistas from high places like this temple at Palenque. Seen from this vantage point, the people down below appear so small that it provides real scale to this scene. The Temple of the sun amidst the tropical foliage suddenly isn't as small as it may appear at first light.
This temple particularly captured my attention because of the elaborate details of the roof! There's no doubt I could spend weeks at Palenque given the chance exploring all the ancient Mayan architecture in more detail. Although I was sweating bullets, I still recognized that Palenque deserves the high regard it gets among Mayan sites.
Do you remember standing on this same spot admiring the vistas of Palenque below? I understand why so many of the taller temples are off-limits to minimize damage to the archaeological sites, but at the same time, I'm glad I had the chance to see Palenque from above and marvel at the treasures of the past in Mexico.
