Description
Climbing to the top of old cathedrals and churches, to me, is just a must do if its allowed. The views not only of the cityscape below but of the architecture is just wonderful.
I'm still amazed by the level of detail in the upper reaches of places like St Peter's Basilica. Consider for a moment that it was never intended to be viewed up close. Most people were meant to see these upper stories from the ground! But these places were so important they didn't skimp and the architecture shows it!
The climb to the top of Saint Peter's was a highlight of my time in Rome. It was a crowded and at times claustrophobic climb through the inside of the dome, but the views were so worth it.
This was one of my parting shots on the way back down, a souvenir of a memorable afternoon in Rome!
