I was in France such a short period of time. In winter this is particularly a gamble. One could easily have a week of dark and gloomy days, but most of my time wandering the Parisian streets was punctuated by beautiful days full of our mother sun!
While I wandered around Notre Dame de Paris on pretty much every day I was in Paris, this glorious sunny day would be the one where I truly stalked the cathedral from top to bottom, taking in the beautiful views.
And I was reminded as I stood there about a winter day in London several years earlier. I was taking a walking tour near Westminster Abbey, another example of beautiful medieval architecture. Our guide pointed out that contrary to what most would think, winter is the best time to see these old churches. So many of them are flanked with massive old trees that obscure at least parts of the Gothic rich architecture. True to her word, I thought as I looked at Notre Dame.
