Description
For me, the last day in any city is bittersweet, but it was particularly so for my second trip to Scotland. I mean, a second trip implies I quite liked Edinburgh the first time doesn't it?
So, it was harder still to bid farewell to Edinburgh once more, but I predictably concluded my visit with one last jaunt up the famous Royal Mile to see the beautiful old medieval fortress, Edinburgh Castle, at the top of Castle Rock.
As fate would have it, I was treated to a pretty beautiful dusk sky and the castle lights had just come on. The esplanade was pretty empty with it being mid-January in Scotland, but I loved that expanse of damp pavement reflecting the dusk blue sky. I'm convinced there's only ever damp pavement in Edinburgh, but it makes for some atmospheric scenes when the light is in your favor as it was at dusk.
At least if the trip had to end, it went out on a high-note, but as with the first one, it left me wanting to visit Edinburgh again and again...
Note: Edinburgh's historic Old and New Towns, including its famous castle, are a UNESCO designated World Heritage Site.
