Description
Compared to my visit at the Top of The Rock, the skies were subdued when I journeyed to the top of the more famous Empire State Building. But there was still something about the city lights at night that made for, I think, some striking aerial views of the city!
This was my personal favorite photo of the famous Chrysler Building with it's iconic Art Deco spire reaching above the skyline. It feels vaguely appropriate to photograph that tower from the ESB which was built at the same time. In fact, they were part of a race to build the tallest building in the city. The Empire State Building won that race, but there's an elegance to the Chrysler Building that has endured, don't you think?
When I edited this photo, I initially went for a very weather worn feel. I felt like this was such a timeless view that I wanted to make it look older. In the end, however, I changed my direction with this picture and decided that I wanted the coloring to feel somewhat vintage, but I didn't want it to look like a photo from the bottom of someone's trunk but a treasured piece from a bygone time.
Of course, those intimately familiar with the NYC skyline may not mistake it for something from many decades ago, but for the rest of us who can't place each building, I think the tones bring about that classic feel I was after.
