Description
My visit to the famous Louvre museum was one of the last stops on my short time in Paris, but what a note to end it on! The Louvre on its own is amazing. It started out life as a medieval Fortress. It evolved into an opulent Renaissance Palace, and today, of course, it is known the world over for its incredible art holdings as a museum.
There will always be a part of me that likes eclectic architecture, and the marriage of a baroque palace with the modern lines of a glass pyramid definitely fits the bill. The pyramid was added in the 1980s when the space of the palace was finally given over entirely to the museum. The museum needed a better way to move people in and out of the massive palace. The new entrance became an architectural statement all of its own. Of course there are people who don't fancy it so much, but I'm not one of them. I love the marriage of modern and vintage, thank you!
Since this was also my day to see the inside of the Louvre, I fear I didn't have much time to photograph the architecture, but I'm quite happy with this photo. I just love the warm soft light and the cloud streaked sky. Such texture above and below in this print!
