Description
There's so much to do and see in Edinburgh that it wasn't until my second visit to that beautiful city that I properly saw Holyrood Palace at the bottom of the Royal Mile.
Officially the Queen's residence in Scotland, it's my understanding that she is rarely at Holyrood outside of an annual summer visit to Edinburgh. Still, it's the site of a long royal history dating back centuries beyond the 17th century baroque palace that stands there today.
Oddly what impressed me most about my visit to Holyrood Palace was the incredibly changeable weather. It wasn't my first time in Scotland, so I knew the weather could vary by the minute, but this was wild even for Scotland. The photos I got during my afternoon there looked almost as if they could have been in different seasons.
This, of course, is a dark moment. The skies were threatening and dark and I loved the mysterious feel of the moment so much that black and white seemed most appropriate. In truth, there was hardly any color to begin with. So this is very nearly a natural monochrome image! Nothing beats the drama of a grand old baroque palace against dark skies, does it?
