There were many nights on both of my trips to Edinburgh that I found myself wandering down the Royal Mile by St. Giles' Cathedral. Partially I'm sure that because it's in a central meeting spot where a lot of Edinburgh tours begin, but it was also because there was something eerily beautiful about the gothic architecture illuminated against the night sky.

On my second trip to Edinburgh, I had the good fortune of wandering by with a beautiful moon just beyond the church spire! I was awe struck by what a beautiful scene it created with the dusk blue sky and the streets illuminated by a warm glow from street lamps. I had to pause for the photo upon which this is based. Just beautiful!

For the trivia buffs, St. Giles' is not in fact a Cathedral as it's a Presbyterian church but the monicker has held over from the long history of a church on this site. It's also known as the High Kirk of Edinburgh. It was originally a Gothic church and was renovated in the 19th century,...
