Tower Bridge is so iconic that many travelers mistake it as London Bridge, which although far more historic is actually today quite plain and dreary by comparison. But if I had to pick one icon, one landmark building that people around the world would recognize as being "London" this would be my choice.
The Victorian beauty looks much older because when it was built in the 19th century, the desire was to make it complement the nearby Tower of London. Hence the Victorian Fantasy of a Medieval bridge that we have today. In a way, I've often felt that even though the Tower of London is very special and historic, Tower Bridge outshines it. It drips with Gothic details and towers over the River Thames majestically.
This black and white photo was one of my earliest photos of the bridge and so holds a special pace for me personally and I have to say it remains one of those photos that people gush over when they see it - such is the power of a photo, particularly one of a landm...
