Description
I love sharing the beautiful architecture of my home town. This is the United Methodist Church on North Dooly Street. The current church, designed by T Firth Lockwood, Jr, was built in 1916. The church was founded even earlier in 1867. The Neoclassical design of the current building is in the Greek Revival style.
It's always interesting to me how much history you can find hidden in architecture. Although I believe the practice of partitioning men and women within the church had mostly died off by the end of the 19th century, it's the reason you find so many Methodist churches like this one with symmetrically placed entrances to either side at the front of the church.
Whatever the case, there's a timeless quality and the feel of a small community about this scene from the main street in Montezuma.
