On my first trip to Mexico on my own, I wanted to see some of the Mayan ruins, and while I tackled seeing Chichen Itza solo by bus, I quickly realized that in a mere week, if I was going to see more, I was probably going to have to break down and take a tour. And that was how I found myself on a long day trek checking out a couple more Maya sites, one of which I'm comfortable saying I would not have seen on my own with such a short window.
That Mayan site is pictured here, Kabah. Kabah when compared to places like Chichen Itza is unknown. Not to say it's not on some people's itineraries, but Kabah was relatively quiet. No crowds selling souvenirs and a relatively small number of people even visiting.
In a way that's both a shame and a blessing. It was awesome to feel like I could quietly walk around and enjoy these beautiful Mayan ruins, but more people should see them. They contrast so with what one sees at other ruins. The style of architecture here even has it's o...
