Artist's Description

I've spent incredibly little time in London on buses. The tourist-filled heart of the great city is incredibly walkable, and if you're a photographer, you'll find much more to document on your feet than on the buses, never mind underground on the Tube!

This particular afternoon, however, I made an exception. I quite by accident discovered that there are a couple of 'Heritage Routes' in operation using the classic AEC Routemaster. No matter how many new types of buses hit the streets of London, these will be the types of double-decker buses that come to my mind as classic London. When I was little a model bus like this one sat in my uncle's shelves - it was a memento of his own trip there. So, it was magical to be walking near Temple Bar and see one of these come lumbering into view. I absolutely had to document it and I had to ride it, of course.
