Description
For the longest time after I took this photo, I had no idea what the statue pointing in the general direction of the Eiffel Tower represented. At the time I took the photo, it very much reminded me of Don Quixote tilting at windmills, and that's still the first image that enters my mind when I see the dynamic tension between the rider on horseback and that golden tower.
I later discovered that the statue is in fact called La France Renaissante (France Reborn) and the rider is none other than Joan of Arc.
Ah, but this Parisian scene will always be special to me whatever the subjects in it may be. I love the larger than life statue and the massive and iconic Eiffel Tower bathed in late afternoon sun, while in the middle of it all, a couple has stopped simply to enjoy the moment. This image would not be the same without them.
Note: The Eiffel Tower is part of a UNESCO designated World Heritage Site that follows the course of the Seine from the Louvre to the Eiffel Tower.
