There are trips in one's life that utterly exceed all expectations, and for me, traveling to Egypt to see in the new year of 2008 was one of those moments. What was more unexpected was that it wasn't the ancient ruins that bowled me over. I mean, I was floored by sites such as the Sphinx, but I discovered Egypt possesses an amazing natural beauty.
Egypt was also a place where I took a few chances. I stepped out of my shell and soared into the skies over the Valley of the Kings to see sunrise from the basket of a hot air balloon. And it was, as you can see by this photo, an amazing experience. Maybe I was riding an adrenaline-induced euphoria, but I still look back and am amazed by the beauty of sunrise over that arid landscape. The skies were an ever changing kaleidoscope of colors and in any direction I looked there seemed to be yet more hot air balloons populated by more travelers like me, experiencing their own trips of a lifetime.
