Description
There's truly an indescribable feeling to floating in a hot air balloon. If you've done it, I bet you know what I mean! If you haven't, you should try it! As we ascended into the skies near Luxor, Egypt, I don't even think I was entirely aware that we had left the ground. I mean, I was aware, but my mind was on the skies. I looked up at these balloons that had left the ground before us and they already seemed so far out of reach and I wanted nothing less than to pass them!
The ironic thing is I've never been overly fond of heights! Bridges, stairs, all those sorts of things give me a bit of anxiety. And the night before our morning flight, I couldn't believe I had signed up for it. I wanted to and at the same time I was a bit intimidated by the idea, but it was the most serene experience. Flying in a hot air balloon (as a passenger) felt so effortless. There was just the occasional blast of the burners, no loud jet engines, no explosive take-off. I do think floating on the winds in a hot air balloon is as close to those dreams of flying as you can get in the waking world!
