Description
This artwork depicts the ruins of Whitby Abbey in Yorkshire in Northern England. This site in Whitby has been the location of a Monastery and the Abbey going back to the 7th century. The last major construction was in the 13th century. The Abbey fell into ruin after Henry VIII's dissolution of the monasteries in the 16th century. The picturesque ruins today are maintained in their current state as an historic site.
This scene with Whitby Abbey lit by the moon danced around in my head for sometime before I completed it. As far as I know I was unaware of the Abbey being a location in Bram Stoker's Dracula but apparently I'm not the first to feel this would be a magical sight to behold.
