Artist's Description
On my first trip to Merida, I was there for a week and I spotted this beautiful old Art Deco theater on pretty much day one because I was staying down the same street. I passed it daily. And I was on the look-out for a chance to photograph it with its beautiful neon lights in action. Each day there seemed to be a stumbling block, like perhaps a vehicle blocking it or the lights were simply off at the time of night when the dusk blue skies reign.
Finally, on the last night, my tenacity was rewarded. At dusk, the streets were clear, the skies were golden, and the old neon lights were in full swing at the Teatro Merida! What an awesome going away present this was!
I'm still a bit short on details about this beautiful art deco beauty, but I did read that it was renovated and re-opened in 2000, so several years before my visit to Merida. It's so awesome that this city keeps its heritage alive! Would the world be a little grayer without a little glamor from days gone by?
About Mark Tisdale
Life is full of happy surprises. After just over a decade working in the 9 to 5 cube world, I threw caution to the wind to follow my dreams of being a full time visual artist. That was five years ago! Is it easy? No, but something truly worthwhile is rarely simple. My body of work is wide ranging from photographic scenes of far away places, more near and dear locations, and more fanciful artwork. It's all crafted with a heartfelt love for finding the beauty in little captured moments. My artwork also hangs on walls near and far from private homes to businesses who have chosen to decorate with my art. Whether you've purchased one piece or a house full or you simply admire and share with your friends, your patronage of my art is...
