One of my favorite views of Galway was on the water as seen from the Claddagh. This little stretch of the waterfront is known as "The Long Walk" and it was quite some time after I visited Galway that I found out the origin of that name has nothing to do with the length of the waterfront. Long is the Irish word for ship and this area was where the ships once came in. Even today the modern harbor is just behind this colorful row of homes.
There's a quaint feeling to this view of Galway, as if we could just strip away the cars parked out front and peel back the centuries in this beautiful old city on the Irish west coast.
