Description
Like many of us, one of my favorite activities on the beach is walking in the shallow water at the edge of the beach. I love feeling the retreating waves of the sea over my feet and the compacted appearance of the sand afterward.
As I was walking on the sands of Playa del Carmen on my last day there, I happened to look down and see this perfectly captured footprint in the sand. I loved the transitory nature of it. Like a flower that will be gone later but perhaps even shorter as the next wave took it away. Some of the most beautiful things are truly fleeting don't you think?
I loved the textures of the sand, the small pebbles and the slightly golden light casting shadows into the deeper parts of the footprint. There was just a simplicity of the moment that I had to stop and capture knowing full well in a moment it would be gone. And in a strange way, that reminds me of my own transitory connection with the beach. I don't know that I'll ever live near one never mind on one, but I love visiting. I love living in those moments and then, they are gone and life returns to its old pace.
And this footprint on the sand will be a souvenir far longer than the moment it appeared on that beach sand in Mexico.
