Description
I don't know if it's universally true or not, but there are hues of blue skies I look at that are quite seasonal to me. I can often look at a photo taken in my region of the world and know if it was taken in fall or winter, for instance. And the blue in this sky over North Berwick beach is definitely a winter blue to me. It just has a cold quality to it in my eyes at least.
Of course, I stood on this expansive piece of empty Scottish beach, so it's entirely possible I'm mixing in my memories of that cold north sea breeze! There's a reason the beach is so empty, but I'm told that North Berwick beach is quite alive during the right seasons!
No complaints from my corner, though. This is one of my favorite seaside pictures. I love how wide open and empty it was. Not to mention those beautiful ripples in the sand that were holding water. The mirror to the sky remains one of my favorite beach captures. It has an almost abstract quality to it. And everything in that moment seemed to lead off to the limitless and vast horizon!
North Berwick is only a short train ride from Edinburgh and sits where the Firth of Forth empties into the North Sea. I was looking for a laid back place to spend one of my last days in Scotland, and the chance to stroll on a beach even in winter was not to be missed.
