Artist's Description

The first time I saw the Ha'Penny Bridge in Dublin, I didn't know it was historically significant, but I knew it was a work of art. I love the graceful lines of this old bridge that connects Lower Ormond Quay with Wellington Quay in the heart of old Dublin.

The bridge, it turns out, is a true Dublin Landmark. It's the oldest iron bridge in all of Ireland. When it first opened, it was a toll bridge, and yes, you paid half a penny to cross it. That toll went out of existence around a century ago. Despite the fact the bridge is officially the Liffey Bridge, people still refer to it as the Ha'penny bridge in reference to the long ago toll.

Like me, you may not have known the history of this heritage bridge when you stood there, but I bet you admired it, too, eh? I love the soft colors in this winter scene.
