Description
I spent more time on Inis Mor, the largest of the Aran Islands than I'd intended. Not because I decided to stay longer but because the weather there was so variable. One day, like the one pictured here, the sun was out and the landscapes and vistas were just off the charts beautiful and rugged. Hours later, the island could be awash in clouds and blowing rain. It really was one of those mystical places where if you don't like the weather, wait a few minutes.
At the time being trapped by the weather didn't set well with me, but when I look back on it.. For the few nice moments I enjoyed, I was ultimately quite happy with my decision to see the island and experience all its faces.
Inishmore is the largest of three Aran Islands near Galway on the west coast of Ireland. I had originally learned of the place because of some ancient sites that existed, but after hearing about the isolated lives people once lived on these islands along the Irish coast, I was even more intrigued. Look at that rocky landscape and just imagine the hearty people who would try to make a home here. I am still impressed. But it was such a beautiful place when the sun was out, that I sort of understand their motivation. Don't you?
