On my first morning in Northern California staying in San Jose I was bound to see the redwoods at Big Basin. Even though I started long before the sun came up, I saw I wasn't going to make it to Big Basin for sunrise and began looking for scenic overlooks to see my first sunrise in California.
This overlook somewhere in the beautiful rolling hills between San Jose and Big Basin was just what the doctor ordered. The vista that unfolded below was the definition of forest primeval in my book. Even more so when the sun started to really highlight the mists that covered the valleys below. I was truly awestruck by just how beautiful it was and how happy I was to have basically randomly selected such a gorgeous location!
The sun never made a grand appearance that morning as foggy as it was, but this is one of my favorite images from that morning because of the thin line of sunlight in the foreground. That beautiful warm light in the midst of all the cool hues... well mother nat...
