Artist's Description

I loved the contrasting architecture of these two buildings on he streets of downtown Asheville, NC, the moment I saw them. These are the Jackson and Westall buildings. Despite the different architectural styles, they were the work of the same architect, Ronald Greene.

The richest details of the Neo-Gothic Jackson building are found in the spires and gargoyles at the top, but even midway up, the architectural style is notably different from the Neo-Spanish Romanesque style of the smaller Westall building.

I chose this angle because I wanted to highlight the contrasting styles of the buildings and the beautiful old brickwork. Buildings of the early 20th century have such great and recognizable style, don't they?

About Mark Tisdale

Mark Tisdale

Life is full of happy surprises. After just over a decade working in the 9 to 5 cube world, I threw caution to the wind to follow my dreams of being a full time visual artist. That was five years ago! Is it easy? No, but something truly worthwhile is rarely simple. My body of work is wide ranging from photographic scenes of far away places, more near and dear locations, and more fanciful artwork. My artwork also hangs on walls near and far from private homes to businesses who have chosen to decorate with my art. Whether you've purchased one piece or a house full or you simply admire and share with your friends, your patronage of my art is...
