Description
Sometimes, it's hard to explain what draws you to capture a particular scene. I was wandering the streets of Salem, Massachusetts just for the afternoon. I had taken a quick train up from Boston because I wanted to see a little more of historic New England. And Salem is an excellent mix. It's very much a thriving little city, but its roots as a New England port are still strong. It's practically packed with historic old houses. When I saw this one bathed in the cool winter sunlight, I had to capture it.
It just feels like the epitome of New England. At least the New England those of us from far south read about. Every inch of peeling paint spoke to me of harsh New England winters of salt air and gale winds from the ocean. Its rambling size and federal period architecture felt somehow both substantial and welcoming. I could very much imagine living on this little street in Salem a few steps from the sea, picket fences and all. Can't you?
