There's something about the beautiful little Lutheran Church in Oglethorpe, Georgia, that is just classic Americana in my eyes.
Mt. Zion - St Luke was formed out of two existing Lutheran Communities in rural Macon County.Those communities had been part of the county dating back to the early 19th century. As time passed, some of those families had moved into the County Seat, Oglethorpe. In 1911, the decision was made to form a new church there. The first services were held in the congregation's new church the following year.
I haven't come across any details about the architect or specific style of architecture for the beautiful Lutheran church in Oglethorpe. Although it's a little late for Carpenter Gothic, a lot of the details remind me of that style. I even see some hints of Romanesque Revival which is typically seen in masonry buildings. If anyone has any specific architectural details for this church, I'd love to hear them, but for me it represents a mixture of...
