Description
I would have found this church worthy of photographing regardless of what lies within those doors, but if you've been to Rome, there's a better than odd chance you've walked inside this 17th century church on the Via Veneto.
This is Santa Maria della Concezione dei Cappuccini, home to an order of monks whose crypt is decorated in a rather macabre fashion with the bones of 4,000 friars. The message in the final room of that crypt is a simple one:
"What you are now, we once were; what we are now, you shall be."
Knowing that the outside is so unassuming isn't it? It has a typically old world European feel to it but could be a church on practically any street in Rome!
I loved the clean lines of the architecture and the bare branches of the trees in winter really seemed to punctuate the height of the old church. In summer, you really wouldn't be able to appreciate the architecture nearly so well!
