Description
This piece of vintage art is based off of a photo of beautiful Christ Church Cathedral in Dublin. There's been a Cathedral on this site going back a thousand years, but there's little left of the medieval cathedral.
In the 19th century, extensive rebuilding took place as the church was in a poor state of repair. This is a story I have heard at more medieval churches than I can remember, but the renovations in the 19th century were sort of a romanticized version of what was there before. As such, you're looking at what the people of the 19th century thought a Gothic cathedral should look like.
It may be a fairy tale rendition of an old world European Cathedral, but I was quite taken by the symmetry and beauty of the church from this angle. I think it was that fairy tale renovation that lead me to create this piece. It almost has the feeling of a worn page from some old vintage book don't you think?
