Description
Cherry Street in downtown Montezuma, Georgia, has a sweet home town quality to it. Most of the store fronts in downtown were built around the turn of the 20th century when cotton was king and small towns like this one in South Central Georgia were thriving.
During my childhood, railroad tracks ran down the center of Cherry Street as the town literally grew up around the intersection of two railroads. After a minor derailment in the 1980's, the train tracks were moved but that's how I personally will always remember this little corner of my home town.
For others, it may be Troy's Snack Shack seen in the midst of Cherry Street here. Troy's has been an institution in Macon County and having passed down through the same family is one of our older businesses in the downtown historic district.
