Description
I'd seen the famous Statue of Liberty from the air a few times on past trips up the eastern seaboard, but this photo is from my first up close view of Lady Liberty from a tour boat. And I have to say that beautiful old statue makes quite an impression. One can almost imagine how it felt when immigrants arriving at Ellis Island saw old Lady Liberty in the waters near New York City all those years ago.
Believe it or not I've yet to get to go inside. On that trip, the day I had open to go, it was pouring rain. And on my second trip the inside of the statue was closed. I guess the old landmark has retained her mystery for me!
At any rate, I think this dramatic view captures some of the larger-than-life magic of the US symbol of freedom lifting her light by the golden door for immigrants the world over.
