If you've ever watched any old period dramas from the likes of the BBC, there's a decent chance you may have seen the streets of the little village of Lacock in Wiltshire in the English countryside.
It took me several trips to England to finally wander those village streets, but it was surreal how much the architecture that surrounded me echoed the streets of a long ago old world village. Only the cars and pavement suggested it was 2000-anything!
I've read that Lacock, somewhat like the Cotswolds, was actually an odd-example of failing to thrive. The village was successful and thrived during the years when the wool trade was a big deal but after became stuck in time. The village is now almost entirely a National Trust property owing to all the old surviving architecture dating from the 1800's and beyond. I think those old half-timbered buildings in this picture may in fact be examples of Tudor Medieval times. Don't you think?
