Description
Edinburgh will always hold a special place in my heart. It was there that I celebrated my first New Year abroad at the dawn of 2005. It was the first of many, but it was also the first More to the point, it was only the first of my trips to Edinburgh and Scotland. But when I look back on my first arrival in Edinburgh at the Waverly train station, when I stepped on to Princes Street, it was this beautiful old clock tower that I first remember seeing. It's this Iconic landmark that will always surface in my mind first because of that.
On my second visit to Edinburgh, I splurged a little on my last nights there. It was mid January and past even the crowds who generally descend on the city for Hogmanay. So I was able to get a nice hotel with a good view of Edinburgh's landmark hotel. The Balmoral started life as the Northern British Hotel in 1902, and despite the name change and refurbishment, its beautiful Gothic style of architecture is still quite evident and very appropriate in the dark of night.
I'd love to stay in that Edinburgh Landmark on Princes Street myself some day, but I have to admit the best views may be in the hotels that surround it! Still, I'm sure there are a lot Harry Potter fans who would love to say they stayed in the same hotel where Rowling finished writing the Harry Potter series, eh?
