Description
On my first day in Granada, I spotted this beautiful cemetery out of the windows of the van on our way in. As anyone who knows me can attest, I cannot resist a cemetery especially one with grand monuments!
I lost track of where I had seen it and the day got away from me. On the second day when we passed it again, I paid attention to the route there and in the late afternoon, I headed back.
It was amazing walking amongst these old tombs in the late afternoon sun. I guess to some seeing the sun setting in a cemetery would be cause to move on, but I had to pry myself out. Forgetting that it's a city of the dead for a moment, look at that amazing old architecture. It reminded me a little of Italy even though I had never seen a cemetery there. Perhaps it was the amazing angels or the beautiful domes and crosses? I'm honestly not sure but it was plainly unforgettable.
The cemetery was immense and I saw only a sliver of it, and judging by these tombs, I suspect this is the part of the cemetery where Granada's great and good are buried, don't you think?
