My first trip to Scotland was spent almost entirely in and near Edinburgh, but for the second trip, I was determined to see the famous Scottish Highlands. The highlands are known for their raw natural beauty, and even though it was winter, that beauty literally shined through for me.
The days this far north are quite short in winter, but when the sun comes out, it's staggering how beautiful it is. I have theories about the low angle of the sun, but maybe it's a mental thing that the sun is appreciated more when it shines?
Whatever the case, on my first day in the highlands, we pulled off near Loch Tulla near Bridge of Orchy on our way to Glen Coe. To the best of my examinations of the maps, this landscape is set in Rannoch Moor. That's definitely Loch Tulla in the foreground, and I believe the chain of mountains, or munros, is known as Black Mount.
