Capri was one of those last minute decisions that you appreciate for a lifetime. A friend and I had traveled to Sorrento mainly to see the antiquities at Pompeii and Herculaneum. Our last free day in the area, we decided to enjoy our time on Capri - something of a compromise, ancient ruins and a resort island since the days of ancient Rome - what could be better?
And despite the Isle of Capri's reputation as a beautiful little piece of the Mediterranean, I was still shell-shocked as the ferry pulled into port at the Marina Grande. Capri felt like something ripped from the pages of a airy tale - beautiful rolling landscape and a quaint old world village. I still look back on that brief afternoon with a feeling of disbelief!
This piece is based of a panorama I took of that gorgeous harbor shortly after we got off the boat. The skies were beautiful, the sun was out, and I find it hard to believe looking back that it was really winter in Italy!
The island was probably a lot less crowded than it would be in the height of tourist season, but it's hard to imagine it more beautiful don't you think?
