Description
I love photos where the interpretation is your own. I was there, and even for me, this photo from the Claddagh in Galway, Ireland, is a mystery. I, myself, had spent most of the day wandering and taking photos in the pea soup fog that had persisted throughout the day. I was heading back to my hostel to warm up and have dinner. So, I've always assumed this little old man who I watched walking up the path ahead of me might be heading home from the market?
And at the same time, I've had friends who came up with quite fanciful tales of mystery and intrigue - i.e. what's in the bag?
The lighting and the fog definitely lend a sense of the surreal, the mysterious, and the ethereal to this image of a foggy Irish night. And it's those very qualities that make this one an image for which you should make your own story, whatever tickles your fancy!
The quality of the fog and light was already headed in a painterly direction, which is what moved me to add textural layers to this image. The result almost makes it feel like this photo was lifted from the front of an old novel.
