Artist's Description
I spent a lot of time walking on the street pictured here. This is O'Connell Street in the heart of Dublin, Ireland. In fact, that's Mr. O'Connell himself standing in statue form part way down this wide avenue.
According to what I read, O'Connell Street is the widest boulevard in Europe, and it was certainly wide and busy as you can see, but because of the wide sidewalks and the wide pedestrian median, it was a very inviting place to wander. And it was perfectly aimed for the sun on a bright sunny day in Europe's winter!
O'Connell Street is also the home to the Dublin Spire, which you see standing tall above the skyline. The Spire was a part of improvements to O'Connell Street in recent years to turn it around from a shady area to a place that tourists and locals would want to visit once more. I'm sure I woud appreciate it more if I'd seen it before, but I'm still in love with the after and long to stroll on O'Connell Street once more some day!
